How To Get Better Results With Your Toto Asia

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as a market that would grow for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words to ensure that the future generation could understand them. Many words were replaced with foreign words. For example dui, which was Bengali for verandah, was used.

Origins

The company was founded in 1917 and its early years mirrored Japan's economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It had the first tunnel kiln in the nation to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, which helps to increase efficiency and consistency.

In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began to expand overseas to take advantage of sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.

In the 90s, Toto began to concentrate on research and development for water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve customers and increase profit. The company adopted a just-in-time approach to supply chain management, and it used the same approach for its sales process. This led to a higher level of customer satisfaction.

Toto has been able to continue to innovate on the toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance is equipped with a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green procurement policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets and hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.

Before the formation of Toto members of the group did session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name like Asia one would expect the group to be prog queens and kings however, it's actually a pretty straight forward rock group. The band began as a four-piece and released two albums in 1979, the self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. But even though the band have a variety of musical backgrounds, their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without its share of problems. Record companies put the band on position with the order "give us a hit record or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on them to deliver. Luckily for Toto they did and they did it with the assistance of the smash single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their previous experience, as the band members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior to forming the group. Their sonic signature has since become the standard for  pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

This album starts off hard with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write great AOR songs that slowly get their hooks into your. However, the album also includes some slower, more jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distorted AOR and could sound totally wrong, but works wonderfully well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes changed to the downside. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band had to go through numerous drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in after he was charged with drug abuse. the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation that was not as successful as IV. The band managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album to feature a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the development of the group. Bobby Kimball's growing proficiency was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was also sharper, more complex and less akin to earlier efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released shortly after, and the group embarked on a long-distance tour to promote the album. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe case of laryngitis which hampered his singing. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville and drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes and the other original members of Asia - Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally reforming the group. This lineup, with the exception of Howe (who was busy with Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
